River of Light Lantern Workshops

YC2023 LANTERN MAKING FOR RIVER OF LIGHT - Grades 5-8

Fridays for 7 weeks; October 13 to December 1 - NO class Thanksgiving week.

In this class, middle school students will enjoy continuing the tradition of building lanterns for the annual River of Light Lantern Parade.

Students will work to design and build larger lanterns based on this year's parade theme; Toys & Games. Creations will take form using traditional materials that include willow, bamboo, paper, and glue. Students will then be able to participate in the excitement by carrying their lantern in the parade on Saturday, December 2nd, in downtown Waterbury.

Location: Workshop - 327 US Route 2, Waterbury

Build a large scale lantern for the River of Light Lantern Parade; one of the most popular community events and celebrations held each year in downtown Waterbury. Using willow, tape, paper, and your creativity and ingenuity, build your lantern to carry in the parade on December 2nd.  This year, the theme is 'Toys & Games'.

Previous experience is recommended but not mandatory. Pre-registration is required. All tools and materials are provided. This is a free workshop. However, donations are always appreciated (either at the workshop or via our website support page).

AW23-2 Family Large Scale Lantern Building for A River of Light Parade

Lantern makers with experience will be on hand for questions and assistance. Children under age 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration is required as spaces are limited. All tools and materials are provided. This is a free workshop. However, donations are always appreciated (either at the workshop or via our website support page).
