Have you ever thought about learning to tie trout flies and taking to the river with a fly rod? MakerSphere has a great introductory course to offer this spring. Join Bill Whitehair and John Wolfe for three evenings of fly tying lessons followed by a fly fishing lesson in the Lower Pond at the Waterbury Stowe Fish and Game Club. There, you can learn to cast your own flies to Vermont’s favorite fish; the brook trout. Bill and John have been teaching together for several years. Bill’s style is to wrap just enough material on a hook to catch a trout and tie just enough to support his fishing habits. A peek into John’s fly box is going to reveal the work of a true craftsman with a passion for tying crisp and elegant flies. We’ll start out tying the classic wooly bugger – a fly any fish in the world would eat. From there we can explore styles based on the interests of the class.
This class is Wednesday evenings from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm starting May 12th at the MakerSphere Art Center and culminating on June 2nd at the Waterbury/Stowe Fish and Game Club to learn how your flies can be used to catch some great fish. Bring what you have but know that Bill has a few rod set-ups to lend out.
The class will be held indoors at MakerSphere with enough room for social distancing. All your tools and materials are part of the course cost of $75.
